Hi Caine. Nice to meet you. I'm another one like you and Lost_light that questioned their beardophobia. That was in the early seventies. Everyone keep telling me just to go along with the organization and they would change in time. I got tired of waiting so I grew one trying to force change. Well a few years later when I left for good they were still beardophobes and still are to this day. Point being you can't teach an old pharisee new tricks. Anyway once I started examining the Watchtower I found the beard issue to be one of their least stupid ideas. While you are out spend some time here and learn more about the real Watchtower.

Active JW's on this forum
by winnie inhaving read posts over the last few months, i have come to the conclusion that there must be alot of 'active' jw's who still regularly attend meetings/field service etc.. don't you feel that by posting your many and varied topics, usually complaining/disagreeing with the wbts, that you are being hypocritical?
when you post your information, obtained sometimes in an questionable manner, doesn't it make you question your own underhanded actions?.
you converse with many on this forum who are disfellowshipped/dissasociated, yet if you knew who these ones were, face to face, you would not give them the time of day!

I think a lot of active JWs are in here just trying to work things out in their mind. They may be seeing things wrong with the organization and are having doubts but it can take them a long time to figure out what they believe and what direction they want to go. Remember in most cases they have a lot to lose if they leave. If I ran onto a JW that posted here and they ignored me I wouldn't hold it against them or take it personal. Would I really expect them buddy up to me in public knowing that the next day they may be getting a divorce and losing their family because they know me?

PUNISHED by WBTS for obeying conscience.
by yesidid ini have a friend well call michael whose conscience landed him in trouble with hq.. .
he was a district overseer in the pre 75 era but his conscience would not allow him to .
endorse the unscriptural date setting.

Good for Michael. Looking back I remember a CO we had that said things I'm sure could have got him in trouble with the WT. I wonder if he ever woke up and got out.
As for Numinous's hamster maybe we are not getting the full story. Was the hamster disfellowshipped at the time?

Complete Amnesty
by zarco inwould you come back the organization if all disfellowshipping/other punitive actions were completely reversed?
if you came back would it be for association with friends and family only?
what policy and behavioral changes would the society need to make to "entice" you back?.

Going back to the jw's would be like a dog going back to its vomit.
And not even a good grade of vomit.

I have been out over 25 years and can't imagine why anyone after escaping the deceitful controling infuence of the Watchtower would put themselves back under it. I think they did have some sort of amnesty program at one point because I had some elders call on me after I had been out well over ten years. They told me I could come back no strings attached. I can't remember how they put it but that was their meaning. It was a very odd meeting that didn't last very long. When I left I the Watchtower I sent WT and my congregation a long letter detailing how corrupt I knew the WT to be so it seemed strange they would even consider wanting me back. Even if I were ever crazy enough to go back they would be kicking me out within a month. The though of ever sitting in a KH again makes nauseous I enjoy reality and my freedom too much.

What I saw in it was the distain and ridicule the person or persons who made this feel for their neighbors who don't want to become one of them. "Now Saturday is a day of rest even if you are not a Jew." "The crazy things people say I'm a Catholic" Saying you are busy or don't have time is considered crazy by this person. A couple of nice digs at other religions there. Also unless something has changed they aren't even supposed to be on the internet.

Why Is Everything Always Wrong To A Jehovah's Witness???
by minimus innothing is ok. everything is problematic..... what if you stumble someone???--------.
let's say you want to invite someone over, you gotta worry about someone thinking your favoring this one over another.
you might be accused of having "cliques".

When I was a JW I remember hearing about a woman in the first congregation I went to who left over an article in one of the magazines that went into why it was wrong to wear a heart as jewelry. I was told that she had said that was the straw and left. My last straw can when they were still whining about beards round about 1980 or so. I got to the point where I felt if things like that stumbled some people let them trip and fall on their face. I agree that the WT uses this more as method of control than really worrying about stumbling people.

Do you feel as if you have to justify why you aren't JW anymore?
by JH inare we playing there game, by having to justify ourselves, why we don't go to meetings anymore, or why we left the org?.
-

I only find myself trying to justify myself when I a wrong but don't want to admit it. There is nothing wrong with not being a JW so there is nothing to justify. It would be like trying to justify yourself for not stealing from a department store. It is more likely for someone to who steals to try to justify their behavior than someone who doesn't steal.

Can Jehovah's Witnesses do Pilates
by I quit! inmy wife is going start exercising again so i am thinking about trying to get her to take a pilates class or at least get a cd to work out with.
does anyone know if the watchtower finds anything wrong with pilates?
i'm sure yoga is right out although i did it as a jw but then again i did a lot of things they said you couldn't do if i felt there was nothing wrong with them.

Thank you for the help guys. It looks like they haven't found anything wrong with it yet so I guess it is ok for them to do it. Once they make the connection V made with Pontius Pilates I'm sure it will be out.
Crumpet, I would think the members of the Governing Body would have to do some Pilates or Yoga exercises before being elected to the GB in order to get their heads far enough up their behinds to make decisions they make once they are on it.
Blonde I'm surprised that a JW would take Tai Chi even if they don't know it is a form of martial art I would think it wouldn't take them long to realize that it is full of eastern thought and religion.
